I was born in the diverse and culturally eclectic city of Montreal, Canada. Because of this, I think I was always destined to have an obsession with food. The food vibes in Montreal— much like my own identity — reflect multiple cultural backgrounds.
My upbringing in a large food-centric family fostered an enthusiasm for cooking, snacking & grazing. My Moroccan heritage taught me about the beauty of Mezze—sharing plates of simple, freshly prepared salads, small bites and spreads—and my Jewish ancestry influenced a deep appreciation for brunch.
Towards the end of my University studies and throughout my 20s I lived and worked in an Ayurvedic clinic in Bhopal, India. It was here where I learned to cook delicious, nourishing Indian food; I also began a journey learning about of the magical flavour and wellness benefits of spices and herbs. This knowledge of and enthusiasm for the power of plants has been the foundation of my cooking style ever since.
In 2011 I moved to the UK and worked in the non-profit sector, supporting various charity and community projects in my new hometown of Leeds, and throughout the country. During this time I pursued a qualification in Nutritional Consulting and began to organise vegetarian cooking workshops in my local neighbourhood of Chapel Allerton. Guiding others towards discovering healthier, more creative ways to cook for themselves and their loved ones became my number one passion.
In 2018 I relocated to the fast-paced, food-trendy city of Toronto Canada and founded my very own business, Spice & Green. Spice & Green crafts handmade, small batch spice blends and specialty food. My goal with the business is to encourage others to understand and celebrate the benefits of herbs & spices, cooking with unique ingredients, and gaining confidence with their own skills in the kitchen.
After a fantastic year, I am back in Chapel Allerton, ready to take all of the diverse food lessons I’ve learned over the years and put this knowledge into action through my Spice & Green business, catering, cooking workshops in the community, and nutritional consulting services. I’m a keen collaborator and aim to customise my work to suit the needs and interests of others; get in touch and we can create something delicious together!
